The education model that facilitates the inclusion of Roma children in the education process that was implemented during four years proved its efficiency. A conference was held in Chisinau on October 30 to present the results of the implementation of the inclusive education model “Education Plus”, IPN reports.
According to the Government‘s press service, the piloting of the model in Zârnești village of Cahul district and in Gribova village of Drochia district enabled to reduce the educational discrepancy between Roma and non-Roma children, to diminish school abandonment and absenteeism among beneficiaries and to foster friendly interaction, dialogue and confidence between children, parents and teachers. The project was implemented by the Institute for Rural Initiatives in partnership with the Liechtenstein Development Service in Moldova.
As part of the project, there was tested the method of using school vouchers that are equal to school supplies and support hours for the integration into the education process of beneficiaries – disadvantaged children, including those of Roma ethnicity. Provision of free meals at schools for beneficiaries from families with many children was another method of motivating the children to go to school and to be more seldom absent from classes.
