The incidence of acute respiratory infections, including cases of pneumonia, bronchitis and common cold, is on the rise lately. Over the past week, there were reported 816 such cases in Chisinau, a 14.9% rise on the previous week, IPN reports.

According to the Chisinau Public Health Center, over 76% of the cases were reported in children under 17. The overall hospitalization rate is 35%, being as high as 86% among children.

To avoid getting ill, doctors recommend eating vitamin C-packed foods such as lemon or blackcurrant and foods rich in phytoncides such as onion and garlic. A healthy lifestyle, smoking- and alcohol- free, also contributes to a higher resistance against infections. Additionally, it is recommended to avoid crowded spaces and contacts with infected people, to frequently wash hands and ventilate spaces, and see a doctor immediately as the first symptoms occur.
