Dissatisfied with the inaction of the government in investigating the stealing of US$1 billion from the banking systems and the pretension to be fighting corruption, members and sympathizers of the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth” (“DA”) protested peacefully in the square of the Metropolitan Cathedral in central Chisinau on June 7. They said the government receives one more bad grade from society, IPN reports.

Blogger Alex Cozer, who is a member of the platform, said before the crowd that the ‘criminal government’ tried to manipulate society and to hamper the meeting of the platform with the assistance of Vladimir Plahotniuc, who played his last trump card - Mihai Ghimpu.  The Liberal Party (PL) intentionally occupied the Great National Assembly Square so as to hinder the meeting of “DA”.

Another platform member Gheorghe Costandachi said secret meetings of the leaders of the Liberal Party and the Democratic Party took place the previous days and the leaders of the PL sold their dignity and the country. “The same thefts as at central level are committed in the country’s settlements, based on Plahotniuc’s schemes, while in Chisinau Chirtoaca, who sold himself to Plahotniuc, implemented the same appropriation schemes, with the municipal budget being deprived of 3 billion lei over the last few years,” he stated.

Member Dinu Plangau said he dreams that the young people of this state will no longer need to mount protests in the center of Chisinau to oust ‘putrid governments ‘. “I no longer have power to fight this misery. They steal our future. The young people choose to go abroad. All the friends of my age went abroad and I took to the streets to demand that the power stop robbing us,” he stated.

Singer Zinaida Bolboceanu called on all the artists not to sing for parties, with the call being made when an artist was singing on the stage of the PL in close proximity. “Do not go to sing for parties because the people come to see you, not the parties,” she said. Other people of art joined her in her call.

After the protest, in which the participants demanded that those who are to blame for the stealing of the US$1 billion should be dismissed, the supporters of the platform “DA” mounted a march up to the head office of the National Anticorruption Center. The event staged by “DA” was held without incidents.

According to the organizers, the protest involved over 50,000 people.
