The Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection in 2018 will double the number of in vitro fertilization procedures for medically insured persons. Under the Law on Mandatory Health Insurance Funds for 2018, the number of such procedures will rise to 60.
In a response to an inquiry made by IPN News Agency, the Ministry’s Hospital Medical Assistance Policy Division says the financial resources needed to achieve such an objective were identified. A number of 76 persons have been accepted for in vitro fertilization procedures.
So far the couple assessment commission has examined 45 applications and accepted 40 of these. Thirty couples received referrals to medical institutions that will perform the procedure. Medical contraindications were ascertained in two cases, while three couples withdrew the application for different reasons. Ten pregnancies were confirmed. Three couples are waiting for a response. Eight procedures are to be performed in the immediate future, while nine operations failed.
The files that didn’t include all the required information were returned with the necessary recommendations and are to be examined again by the commission. Three medical institutions were contracted to provide by ten in vitro fertilization procedures each in 2017. A sum of over 950,000 lei was allocated from the mandatory health insurance funds this year for the purpose.
