Moldova is the country in which the Government and the people, immediately after the outbreak of the war, started to welcome and host people from Ukraine. These are kindhearted people who continue devoting themselves to this noble cause. This was the message disseminated by Japan’s Ambassador to Moldova Yoshihiro Katayama in the piano concerts “Solidarity Moldova” given by Japanese pianist Tempei Nakamura in Moldova. The charity tour ended with a piano recital in Chisinau, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR).
During his visit to Moldova, Tempei Nakamura met with those who were recently forced to abandon their homes and through the agency of music asked for global support for the refugees. “I’m here, in Moldova, meeting people who were forced by the war in Ukraine to leave their homes. In time I had the chance to play music in many countries, including Ukraine. I’m glad I was able to play for the people in Moldova and for the refugees who came from Ukraine,” stated Tempei Nakamura.
Francesca Bonelli, UNHCR Representative to Moldova, said that music “has the power to connect people who were forced to cross the borders in search of safety, with the few things they managed to take with them. This can also strengthen the feeling of unity and solidarity and tells us that we can unite and work to support the refugees.”
The Japanese composer has been in Moldova since October 23. Through the agency of his songs, the pianist asked for global support for the Ukrainians. Except for Chisinau, Tempei Nakamura held concerts also in Cahul and Balti. The charity tour “Solidarity Moldova” was organized by the Embassy of Japan in Moldova and the UN Refugee Agency.
