In December 2023, new deposits attracted by banks amounted to 5.92 billion lei, increasing by 60.7% compared to November 2023, the National Bank of Moldova reported.
Deposits attracted in the national currency accounted for 61.5% and totaled 3.64 billion lei, up 47.2% from the previous month. Deposits attracted in foreign currencies totaled 2.28 billion lei, increasing by 88.4%.
The average nominal rate on new deposits attracted in the national currency decreased by 0.16 points to 4.13%, and on foreign currency deposits increased by 0.42 points to 2.21%.
The most popular were deposits maturing in 2 to 5 years (38.9%) and with terms ranging from 6 to 12 months (38.7 %).
The deposits of individual clients amounted to 3.73 billion lei last December, an increase of 38.5% compared to the previous month. The most popular were deposits with terms from 6 to 12 months, 29.5% of the total.
The average rate on deposits attracted in the national currency from individuals decreased by 0.20 percentage points to 4.15%. The average rate on deposits attracted in foreign currencies increased by 0.27 percentage points to 2.16%.
In December 2023, deposits in the national currency of corporate clients increased by 80%, and deposits in foreign currencies increased three times. Deposits in the national currency of corporate clients constituted 1.19. billion lei, and those in foreign currencies 1.00 billion lei.
The average rate on deposits attracted in the national currency from corporate clients decreased by 0.03 percentage points to 4.10%, and on deposits attracted in foreign currencies increased by 0.75 percentage points to 2.27%.
