In Brussels Igor Dodon expressed concerns regarding gas supply

President Igor Dodon expressed concerns regarding gas delivery to the Republic of Moldova after January 1st , 2020 at the meeting with Vice-President of the European Commission for the Energy Union Maroš Šefčovič, in Brussels, IPN reports.

Igor Dodon mentioned that, in the context of the dispute between Russia and Ukraine, the gas supply in the Republic of Moldova was one of the most important concerns of the Government.

Igor Dodon had several meetings during his visit to Brussels. At the meeting with David McAllister, the chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament, the head of state discussed the need to restore the country's image and to effectively implement the Association Agreement with the EU, a press release of the Presidency said.

Constitutional status of permanent neutrality and balanced foreign policy remain a basic priority for the leadership of the Republic of Moldova, since this implies building good neighbourly relations with all international partners based on mutual respect, said Igor Dodon at the meeting with Jens Stoltenberg, the Secretary General at NATO.

Igor Dodon appreciated the good cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union during the meeting with Federica Mogherini, high representative of the EU for foreign affairs and security policy. The head of state thanked Mrs. Mogherini for the prompt reaction to the events related to overcoming the political crisis in the Republic of Moldova.

In Brussels, Igor Dodon had a meeting with the President of the European Parliament, David-Maria Sassoli, within the framework of which he mentioned that the Republic of Moldova opted to intensify the dialogue with the European Union and to strengthen the democratic institutions in the country.

The relaunch of the political dialogue between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union, which offers new opportunities to resume and advance cooperation on multiple dimensions, and in particular, with a view to implementing the Association Agreement, has been discussed by Igor Dodon at the meeting with the European Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Mr. Johannes Hahn.

At the end of his working visit to Brussels, President Igor Dodon met with Sabine Laruelle, the President of the Belgian Senate. The head of state mentioned the increase in the volume of trade in recent years: in 2018, imports from Belgium amounted to about 46 million US dollars, by 18% more than in 2017. Export to Belgium in 2018 constituted about 15 million, by 14 % more than in 2017.
