“Moldova has yet a lot of work to do as regards the protection of children’s rights,” ombudswoman for children’s rights Tamara Plamadeala told Info-Prim Neo.
Plamadeala said that 2009 was a better year because she managed to achieve many of the set objectives despite the lack of experience and adequate financing.
A number of important projects will be implemented in 2010, including with foreign support. They will help solve many of the problems faced by the children. “I want that the children know that they have rights and how they can use them. They must regard me as their friend. Therefore, I encourage them to speak, to ask help, to discuss. It is important that we take the child’s opinion into account when we carry out activities and implement projects intended for children,” the ombudswoman said.
According to Tamara Plamadeala, the monitoring showed that the children in Moldova do not adequately know their rights. “This does not mean that the children must count the rights they have. They should now how to interpret them and use them every day. I can say that the rights of the child in Moldova are not guaranteed.”
The ombudswoman said that in 2010 she will demand that the local and central authorities take an appropriate attitude to the real situation of the children’s rights and implement exactly the recommendations of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child.
“I want to see healthy and happy children. I want them to spend the winter holidays joyously. I wish that all their dreams come true,” Tamara Plamadeala said.
