Important U.S. investors are interested in Moldova’s agriculture and energy sector. These examined the opportunities of investing in these sectors of Moldova’s economy in a meeting with the first deputy chairman of the Democratic Party of Moldova Vlad Plahotniuc, who is paying a working visit to the U.S. The visit continues on the dimension of foreign investment attraction to Moldova and development of partnerships in key areas of the state.

In particular, Vlad Plahotniuc met with an important community of businessmen in Houston, Texas. He presented the investment opportunities in Moldova to them and noted that the government is determined to ensure economic stability and to immediately develop large-scale infrastructure projects. He also spoke about the concessions provided by the state through public-private partnerships, free economic zones, industrial parks, etc.

For their part, the U.S. businessmen, who included the member of the Quantum Energy Partners’ Investment Committee Chuck Davidson, businessman and investor Neil Bush, who is the brother of the former U.S. President George W. Bush, and King Ranch Incorporated President/CEO Robert Underbrink, inquired about the situation in agriculture and the energy sector. At the end of the meeting, they said they will accept Vlad Plahotniuc’s invitation to visit Moldova so as to convince themselves of its potential.

Pursuing the goal of supporting new partnerships for developing the main state areas of activity, Vlad Plahotniuc visited the Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy in Texas, where he met with the Institute’s director Edward P. Djerejian. This Institute is one of the most important public policy think tanks in the U.S. and the world.

“I hope that the discussion I had at the Baker Institute will generate new cooperation relations with our country given that Edward P. Djerejian, who is of Armenian origin, is close to the preoccupations of the region,” stated Vlad Plahotniuc.

According to the press release, the Baker Institute was founded by James Baker III, the first U.S. secretary of state who visited Moldova after it declared its independence. The think tank implements programs centering on the economic growth of developing markets and research programs in energy, health, conflict resolution and fiscal policy. The Institute cooperates with experts from the academic, governmental, mass media and business communities and with NGOs from the U.S. Its Administration Board includes William Barnett, Colin Powell and Madeleine Albright.
