The Constitutional Court rejected the application of a group of Liberal-Democratic MPs who challenged the constitutionality of the Parliament decision to remove the parliamentary immunity of MP Vlad Filat, ruling that the decision is constitutional, IPN reports.

In its November 17 meeting, the Constitutional Court decided that Parliament cannot institute other decisional quorums than those stipulated in the Constitution. To ensure the constitutional principle of transparency and responsibility, voting in Parliament is open except for the cases defined by the Constitution and in emergences related to the protection of the people and national security.

A number of articles and the word ‘secret’ from the Parliament’s Regulations and from the legislation on the status of MP were declared unconstitutional. Until Parliament revises the legislative provisions concerning other decisional quorums and the secrecy of the vote, the constitutional provisions will be implemented directly.

The Court made a recommendation to Parliament to amend the legislation that runs counter to the Constitution, as regards other decisional quorums and secrecy of the vote.
