IMF representatives count on continuation of reforms in Moldova

The representatives of the International Monetary Fund expressed their confidence that the current government will continue the reforms aimed at ensuring economic growth and in other area. The issue was discussed in a meeting of Speaker Igor Corman, the IMF mission head Nikolay Gueorguiev, whose tenure expires, and the new head Max Alier, IPN has learned from the Parliament’s press service.

The meeting centered on the economic and political situation in Moldova and the prospects. Nikolay Gueorguiev, who worked in Moldova over the last four years, presented the new team of the IMF for Moldova, headed by Max Alier, a functionary of the IMF’s European Department.

The Head of Parliament underlined that the relationship with the IMF is very important for Moldova. He said that the legislative body will continue to intensely cooperate with the governmental team so as to ensure a favorable legal framework for maintaining macroeconomic stability and strengthening cooperation with the foreign partners.
 
The IMF mission came to Chisinau to assess the macroeconomic situation in the country, to review the IMF supported program under the Extended Credit Facility and to formulate proposals for a new assistance program. It will be in Chisinau until June 24.
