The International Monetary Fund mission that will work in Chisinau between February 23 and 29 had the first meetings. In the first part of the day, the IMF experts had a meeting with Prime Minster Pavel Filip and then paid a visit to the Ministry of Economy, IPN reports.
According to the Government’s press service, the sides discussed the recent economic developments and the authorities’ policies to maintain macroeconomic stability and improve governance. The Premier underlined the importance of the IMF mission’s visit for regaining the external partners’ confidence and unlocking the external financing needed for doing complex reforms.
The head of the IMF mission Ivanna Vladkova-Hollar said the Government’s priorities generally correspond to the priorities identified by the IMF. The goal of the mission is to inform itself about the macroeconomic forecasts and policies pursued by the authorities, the situation in the financial-banking sector and the budgetary-fiscal policies.
The next visits will be made to the National Bank of Moldova and the Ministry of Finance. Meetings will be later held with representatives of Moldova’s external donors – the U.S. Embassy and the EU Delegation to Moldova.
No statements for the press were planned.
The mission does not have the mandate to negotiate a financial assistance program and its outcome will not be discussed at the IMF Executive Board.
