The International Monetary Fund’s mission headed by Max Alier had been in Chisinau between July 16 and July 22. The goal of the mission was to examine the situation in the country’s financial-banking sector and to discuss the assistance for development provided to Moldova and the implementation of the structural policies after the IMF-supported program expires, IPN reports.

According to the Government’s press service, at the end of the mission the experts met with Prime Minister Iurie Leanca. The main subjects discussed in the meeting included the macroeconomic situation in 2014 and, in the medium term, the monetary policies pursued by the National Bank of Moldova and the situation in the financial sector of the country.

The discussions also focused on the evolution of the national public budget, including the state social insurance budget, in 2014 and the budgetary prospects for 2015 as well as the medium-term budgetary framework for 2015-2017 and the current risks to the development of the macroeconomic situation, especially following the import restrictions imposed by Russia and the difficult regional situation.

Iurie Leanca said the Government of Moldova will continue to pursue the budgetary-fiscal and monetary-currency polices, for which it assumed responsibility, with maximum prudence. He underlined that the taken decisions are aimed at improving the Moldovan people’s lives and assured that they are sustainable, which means that the planned salary and benefit raises will have financial coverage.

The conclusions of the IMF mission will be presented to the Moldovan authorities in the near future.
