Illegally parked vehicles will no longer be taken to the special parking lot if they do not block other vehicles and pedestrians, including those with reduced mobility. A condition is also that the vehicles should not be located on zebras, at intersections or near them. Before ordering the removal of the car, the ascertaining agent will be obliged to call the owner of the illegally parked car. A group of MPs of the Party of Action and Solidarity proposed relevant amendments to the law, IPN reports.

MP Dorian Istratii told a press briefing that there is a pressing shortage of parking spaces in the city, and citizens park as best they can because they need to go to work, to the hospital, etc. Then, however, they face a series of abuses related to the taking of the car to the special parking lot, and such cases have increased in number. In order to avoid them, amendments to the Contravention Code need to be made.

"The car, even if it is parked illegally, will be taken away only if at least one of the conditions is met. Otherwise, the police will impose only the penalty, without the vehicle being taken away,” stated the MP.

According to Istratii, the car could be removed if it blocks the access of other vehicles, if it is on the pedestrian crossing or is parked within 10 meters before it. Another condition for taking the vehicle away is that the minimum width of the traffic path left at the disposal of pedestrians with limited mobility is smaller than 1.5 meters.

The vehicle could be taken away if it blocks access to stairs, ramps or inclined curbs intended for people with disabilities and other groups with reduced mobility, if it impedes the movement of special vehicles that maintain and repair roads, provide cleanup and public utility services. Vehicles that are on railway level crossings and at a distance that is closer than 50 meters to them, are in tunnels, on bridges, viaducts, ramps and under them will also be towed away.

"Another condition is that they are in the stations of vehicles running on routes, at intersections and at a distance shorter than 15 meters from them, and also when drivers do not comply with the requirements of the traffic police when they create obstacles for public events, the movement of official columns, or public safety is endangered," said Dorian Istratii.

Vehicles parked in spaces reserved for parking or for charging electric vehicles, as well as those in parking lots intended for people with disabilities, will also be removed. According to the MP, in other cases it is enough for the police to impose the penalty, without towing the vehicle away to the special parking lot.
