The checkpoints that were illegally installed by Tiraspol in the Security Zone started to be taken away. Asked by journalists about this, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian said that there is such information and it is currently being verified, IPN reports.

"As far as we know, their dismantling has already begun in Bender. There are reports that need to be verified and we will come back with details on these illegal checkpoints, which since 2022 have been constantly in the focus of the working groups and the 1+1 discussion format. We hope that things will move forward," said the official.

In 2020, the authorities in Tiraspol unilaterally set up, during the state of emergency related to the COVID-19 pandemic, 37 checkpoints around the localities that are under the control of the constitutional authorities. At that time, Chisinau described the decision as a defiance of the Agreement of July 21, 1992. Along the way, Tiraspol reduced the number of checkpoints.

Chisinau formulated a number of requests addressed to Tiraspol, which underlay the agreements to allow gas to be supplied to the Transnistrian region. The removal of the checkpoints installed in 2022 (33, of which 11 are still active) was one of the requirements.
