Businessman Ilan Shor is running for the mayoralty of Orhei town on behalf of the party “Ravnopravie”. Initially, he wanted to run independently and even asked for the subscription lists from the Orhei District Electoral Council through his representatives, IPN reports.
Ilan Shor is under house arrest, being investigated in the case of appropriation of billions of lei from three Moldovan banks. The announcement that he intends to run for the post of mayor of Orhei was followed by comments saying the businessman actually wants to escape from house arrest and flee the country. The businessman made a reply: “I tell those who say that Shor gets ready to run away: Don’t even hope! I have no intention of leaving Moldova and of breaking the law, as some dream. I will stay and will build a town,” says a statement issued by Ilan Shor’s team.
The statement also says that the number of signatures needed to run for the post of mayor independently was gathered during one day, but the businessman considers he will achieve more as part of a team. “Where there is one, there is no power. In order to carry out my ambitious plan, I need a team in the town council. That’s why I decided to run for the post of mayor on behalf of the party “Ravnopravie”,” said Ilan Shor.
As to the chose made in favor of Orhei town, Ilan Shor said this is his town for a number of reasons. “I’ve known well this town since childhood and I like it. My relatives lived here. They were doctors and teachers and were respected people. My football team “Milsami” is also from Orhei. In only five years, this team became a leader in the Moldovan football. I visited often Orhei and I surely saw the multiple problems that prevent it from developing. What I saw every time made me want to change the situation,” stated the businessman.
He also said that he knows how to transform Orhei into a prosperous town and that he does not want the post of mayor in order to make profit. He will come to invest in this town and he will build Europe in Orhei at a time when others only speak about Europe.
