The local elections held on October 20 indicate that Renato Usatii’s Our Party and the Shor Party won in some separate regions, a phenomenon close to “a feudalization of the country on political principles". This is the opinion of the political consultant Igor Volnițchi, which he expressed on TVR Moldova. According to him, this could be dangerous for Moldova.

“I do not want to anticipate certain things, nor do I want these trends to come true, but the fact that the Shor Party managed to strengthen its positions in the center of the country, in Orhei, and managed to make a step south, in Taraclia, where the mayor represents this party, outlines some political fiefdoms, which is a first in the political history of Moldova. There is a feudalization of the country on political grounds. This is something that should worry the country and the citizens because it is not good when a certain political party is concentrated in a territory, it’s best if it’s dispersed throughout the state,” said Igor Volnitchi.

According to him, this creates conditions for demonstrations such as civic disobedience. Also, Igor Volnițchi believes that 2019 political year has more surprises to offer and there could be more important developments by the end of the year.

The president of the Institute for Strategic Initiatives (IPIS), Andrei Popov, considers that in this election, geopolitics has been put in the background. According to him, although ACUM has fewer members in Parliament, it did not concede to the political platform of the Socialists, but rather the Socialists agreed to support and not oppose to the previous European projects. At the same time, Andrei Popov considers that the fact PSRM obtained a lower score than expected in the elections and cannot rely on being a dominant party, deter it from initiating a break-up of the governing coalition and the dissolution of the Government.
