Igor Talmazan announced his resignation from the post of director of the Customs Service. He said that he tendered his resignation after seven customs inspectors of the Chisinau Airport customs post started to be investigated for corruption, IPN reports.
Igor Talmazan said he wants a modern Customs Service that manages efficiently, professionally and responsibly the customs sector, combats fraud and contributes to the country’s economic security and includes honest customs officers who strictly comply with the Code of Ethics.
According to him, even if he achieved results together with the team, there is still a lot of work to be done in the field of institutional integrity and professional ethics. The latest case, in which seven customs inspectors of the Airport customs post are investigated for corruption, shows that a lot of efforts are still needed.
“As a leader, I’m responsible for the proper management of the Customs Service and I assume both the successes and especially the failures of the period during which I managed the Customs Service and I consider that, as head of the institution, it must tender my resignation and withdraw from the position of director of the Customs Service", said Igor Talmazan, being quoted in a press release of the Customs Service.
Igor Talmazan also said that the fight against corruption is a long-term effort and he believes that new energy is needed to accelerate and accomplish this mission, and the new leader must put increased emphasis on institutional integrity.
Igor Talmazan had held the position of director of the Customs Service between September 2021 and November 2022, being reappointed on February 20, 2023.
