Vlad Filat, who investigated under arrest for alleged acts of corruption, does not make the promised revelations because he does not have confidence in the justice system and will provide evidence only to a really independent prosecutor general, the former Premier’s lawyer Igor Popa said in the talk show “Politics” on TV 7 channel, IPN reports.
“My client knows information about the commission of offenses for which the statute of limitations is 10 years. It’s now not the moment to reveal this information. For us, it is important for this information to produce the expected result. We already filed a complaint against Ilan Shor for slander. This complaint stayed for ten days on the table of the prosecutor, who ultimately rejected it. We do not want the same to happen to this information. We expect that things in justice will change in a period. If a definitive judgment to drop the case is passed, nothing can be done already,” explained the lawyer.
According to Igor Popa, Filat never took bribe from Shor. “Bribe should not be mixed up with personal presents. Shor offered Filat some ‘poisonous’ gifts with the aim of discrediting him and of making him blackmailable. At an anniversary celebration, Shor left the keys of a car in a black box for Filat, without telling him something. The present was rejected,” said the lawyer.
He also said that there is no evidence showing that the ex-Premier is guilty and this is not involved in the theft of the US$1 billion. “The case was built on the self-denouncing statements of Ilan Shor. Initially, this said that the bribe totaled US$250 million. In the indictment, there is the figure of US$40 million,” he stated.
Igor Popa noted that the conditions of detention of the former Prime Minister leave much to be desired. Moreover, he was placed in a cell with a recidivist who was sentenced to 11 years in jail for pedophilia. Besides, this is very sick.
