The deputy chief of the Chisinau Prosecutor’s Office and head of the Ciocana Office Igor Popa, who was suspended from post, is investigated on five counts. Legal action was ordered by acting prosecutor general Dumitru Robu, IPN reports.
The Prosecutor General’s Office said the investigation was started based on suspicions that the prosecutor filed false tax returns. More exactly, he knowingly didn’t include particular data in the property and personal interest statements. It comes to real estate owned by his cohabiting partner, which represents common residential space. This information was to be reported, as the law provides.
Legal proceedings were instituted based on journalistic investigations.
Igor Popa was detained on November 9, 2021. He was placed under house arrested and later under judicial control.
