“Inflation will rise and I hope it will rise not so much as to be slaying for the small incomes of the population. The swifter the Government intervenes with a package of anti-crisis measures intended for the SMEs, the lesser will be the human sacrifices,” MP Igor Munteanu was quoted by IPN as saying in the talk show “In Depth” on PRO TV channel.
According to the MP, the currency market of Moldova will also be affected and the leu is expected to depreciate.
“We must expect important changes on the currency exchange market and this will be due to the remittances that will decline and to the currency interventions as the National Bank of Moldova will assume an active role. The NBM will have to offer more possibilities to the commercial banks and to intervene in the currency market and this will have an impact on the leu-dolar exchange rate,” stated Igor Munteanu.
The MP noted the authorities should rapidly draw conclusions and the 2020 state budget will undergo considerable changes.
“We didn’t experience such pandemics until now. The Republic of Moldova didn’t face situations of the kind in its modern history. We must learn swiftly from this major crisis. We must behave maturely and react appropriately to the challenges confronting us. The decision makers should not behave like spoiled children and believe that if they have the toy in front of them, they will always control the decision-making mechanism. The public sector institutions should be very tough on the own employees, should follow the advice of the Commission for Exceptional Situations and should maximally optimize the managed resources. We will have to go over the 2020 budget with the bulldozer and to significantly modify the expenditure.”
According to Igor Munteanu, Moldova will experience an economic crisis that will last longer than the 60 days of the state of emergency declared in the country.
