The reforms that are awaited in Moldova do not advance and there are big delays. The problems related to the justice sector reform are the most serious ones. In an electoral year, it is hard to choose the reform path that will work miracles, director of the Institute for Development and Social Initiative “Viitorul” Igor Munteanu stated in the program “In Depth” on PRO TV Chisinau channel, IPN reports.

According to Igor Munteanu, the adoption of the mixed electoral system was a system defect as this was a bad choice that costs us. The fact that the European Union does not invest the money promised for several times is due not to the fact that Moldova does not know how to obtain it, but to the fact that there is no certainty that this money will be allocated for achieving objectives set in accordance with the agreements.

The resolution of the Foreign Affairs Council of the EU, which was made public several days ago, reveals the European officials’ concern about the fact that Moldova is no longer as pluralistic as earlier as pluralism of opinion does not mean diversity only. It also means the capacity of some groups of people to formulate a viewpoint and to defend it by legal means and through the mass media. “There are mass media corporations that are controlled by particular persons and there is the Broadcasting Coordination Council that didn’t take measures to protect the public interest in this very sensitive area,” stated Igor Munteanu.

According to him, the Republic of Moldova fell freely from a “success story” to a stage when it is treated with reserve and almost with ill humor.
