The head of the parliamentary group of the Action and Solidarity Party Igor Grosu said they do not have reasons to vote the draft state budget for 2020. The draft budget is unrealistic as it will be unable to cover the deficit agreed by the Government for next year. Furthermore, the budget is electoral in character as it is designed to help President Igor Dodon to gain a second term in office.

The MP noted the Chicu Government borrowed almost fully the budget drafted by the Sandu Government. The bonuses that were to be paid to public sector employees were excluded. The money promised by Romania to Moldova was also not included in the budget. Furthermore, the local public authorities will remain without funds as the draft law provides that the money saved by mayors will be withdrawn by the central authorities. “We thus do not have many reasons to vote. Furthermore, as regards the import of hybrid cars that pollute less the environment, instead of favoring those who bring such cars, they favor another importer that worked for many years on the domestic market. There are many such things that bother us and make us not to vote,” Igor Grosu was quoted by IPN as saying in a program on TVR Moldova channel.

Socialist MP Andrian Lebedinschi said a large part of the bills proposed by the ACUM Bloc were included in the budget for next year. Many of the President’s initiatives were ignored during the Sandu Government, but were taken into account when the executive was replaced. If the revenues of the population grow, the people’s purchasing power will also grow and this will stimulate economic growth.

Political commentator Corneliu Ciurea said the draft budget for 2020 is electoral as presidential elections are coming. The politicians who are in power could propose generous projects for the people. “An electoral year is approaching and the politicians in the period are more munificent. But we hope a lot that the Chicu Government will be able to balance the budget so that this could be appropriately executed,” he stated.
