The PAS parliamentary group will appoint to CEC people with electoral experience, whose aim is to properly organize elections. According to Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, the procedure for appointing new members to the Central Electoral Commission will be carried out transparently and each CEC member will be separately approved during plenary session.

The Parliament Speaker said that the priority for the autumn-winter parliamentary session is the approval by the legislature of the new composition of the Central Electoral Commission. According to the Speaker, the CVs of the candidates will be made public. If the press finds integrity concerns regarding one of the candidates, that person will be withdrawn from the race.

"We want fair elections, that is why we will delegate people who have electoral experience. The 23rd of August is the deadline for applications. The legal committee will examine the CVs of all candidates. The process will be transparent and each candidate will be elected individually in Parliament. The press will have enough time to verify the biographies of each candidate", said Igor Grosu on TVR Moldova's "Punctul pe azi".

The Speaker said that there is currently no need to amend the legislation as to make CEC members appointment less political.

"Parliament is voting CEC members into office, which is why Parliament should take responsability for this process. At PAS, we had a rather unpleasant experience with Dorin Cimil, for whom we took responsability. We publicly said that he was our representative, but at some point we changed our attitude in relation to him. Later we publicly announced that we were wrong", said Igor Grosu.

According to the law, the nine Central Electoral Commission members are appointed by Parliament with a majority vote. A member is appointed on the proposal of the Moldovan president, while the other eight members are appointed by parliamentary groups in accordance with the proportionality in the legislature. The current Commission's mandate expired on June 17.
