Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu assured Turkish officials that the ballots for the voters in Gagauzia will be printed in the language in which the citizens will request. He said the Turkish officials expressed an increased interest in the language in which the ballots will be printed as they were misinformed about the issue. Igor Grosu said the procedure was made more flexible and the ballots will be printed not only in Romanian, but also in the language spoken by the majority population in the community, IPN reports.

The language in which the ballots for the voters in Gagauzia will be printed was one of the subjects discussed by the Parliament Speaker during his recent official visit to Turkey. He said the ballots will be printed not only in Romanian, but also in the language requested by the voters.

“I was asked often and I clarified the issue. They inquired because they weren’t informed in the most correct way about the language in which ballots will be printed in the elections in Gagauzia, either the Bashkan election or the general elections. In accordance with the Electoral Code, we can also print in another language if there is a large particular community and those citizens ask for this. Until now, we printed ballots in the Romanian and Russian languages and spent a huge sum of money. Now the ballots will be printed in the language they will request. We made the procedure more flexible. In Turkey, I informed them about this,” Igor Grosu stated in the talk show “Résumé with Ileana Pîrgaru” on RliveTV channel.

The Speaker noted that the government will extend the state of emergency, but this will not affect the proper conduct of elections. The PAS leader assured that the Bashkan elections and the local elections will take place as planned.

“I want to calm down those who look for reasons to have the April elections put off until autumn or to have the October elections postponed. No, we will allow derogation from the law on the state of emergency by which the holding of elections will be permitted. I remind you that we had partial elections in a number of localities and allowed derogation from the law then. We will act similarity now,” explained Igor Grosu.

Under a decision taken by the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia, the Bashkan election will be held on April 30. The Central Election Commission decided that the local general elections will take place on the last Sunday of October or on the first Sunday of November.
