The Kremlin counts on bandits and criminal groups in its attempts to thwart the European path of the Republic of Moldova, said Speaker of Parliament Igor Grosu, according to whom the state institutions know how to act in relation to the politicians who last Sunday took part in the Congress of “Victory” bloc held in Moscow. The official noted that in order to facilitate the work of law enforcement officers, the MPs amended the Criminal Code and the notion of “treason” was defined more explicitly, IPN reports.

The Congress of the political bloc “Victory” took place in Moscow on June 9. This is an entity created from the satellite formations of the former Shor Party and is led by the fugitive politician Ilan Shor, who was sentenced to 15 years in prison in the bank fraud case. Moldova’s Speaker said that Russia openly relies on discredited politicians from the Republic of Moldova in its intentions to block the country’s European path.

“What was previously camouflaged, is now open. The Kremlin chose the bandits, the criminal groups. They go straight ahead. They are no longer ashamed. They understand that Moldova is moving quickly on its path of European integration. There are people with analytical capacities there, even if they are led by a dictator. They understand that they don’t have much time to build other platforms that they would bank on and decided to choose the bandits, who apply cynical methods. These are traditional methods that the Kremlin applies in the Russian Federation or elsewhere, such as lying, disinformation, corruption of voters. Our institutions know what they have to do. We will act. We will discourage. The law enforcement agencies must do their job and here there will be pressure from us as well,” Igor Grosu stated in the program “At 360 Degrees” on Radio Moldova.

The official noted that the Parliament amended the Criminal Code so that people who act against the interests of the Republic of Moldova are penalized. The law enforcement officers now have more levers to sanction treason.

“The last amendment we made to the legislation, which is related to the subject of treason against the homeland, we made at their request. We keep asking: why don’t we see actions? And they said that the Criminal Code article that refers to treason should be more explicit. We amended the law. The resistance was also seen. Now we are waiting for decisive action. The Border Police acts. The SIS acts, as the police do. We are waiting for an end result,” explained the Speaker of Parliament.

According to the organizers, the Congress of the political bloc “Victory”, held on June 9 in Moscow, was attended by more than 4,000 people. The leaders of the political entity announced that they are against the referendum set for October 20 and against the European integration of the Republic of Moldova.
