There are no dangers of escalation and destabilization of the situation, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu assured in the context of the so-called Congress of deputies from the Transnistrian region, which is to take place on Wednesday in Tiraspol. The official said that by disseminating information regarding a possible request to accept the region as a component part of Russia, the separatists want to induce a state of panic in society, IPN reports.

The 7th Congress of the so-called deputies of all levels from the Transnistrian region is set to take place in Tiraspol on February 28 to discuss the sociopolitical and economic situation in the region. According to press reports, the leadership in Tiraspol is going to request to accept the Transnistrian region as a component part of the Russian Federation. Speaker Grosu describes this information as speculation and assures that there are no reasons for concern.

“There is no danger of escalation or destabilization of the situation. It is rather a campaign that attempts to hysterize society around this event in Tiraspol - an event planned by those from the left side of the Nistru and those from the Kremlin. We see no danger of destabilization. We are following the developments very carefully. It will be a propaganda event during which the people in Tiraspol will say how much they love the Tsar and maybe, in addition to the gas they consume for free, they will get something more. We call on the people to remain calm. If necessary, we will intervene and inform the citizens,” Igor Grosu stated in the talk show “In the Context” on the public television station.

The rhetoric regarding a possible request by Tiraspol to accept the region as part of the Russian Federation comes after the separatist leaders repeatedly accused Chisinau of exerting economic pressure. The accusations were made in the context of the entry into force of the provisions of the new Customs Code, which obliges economic agents in the region to pay taxes to the state budget.

“These changes were made back in the summer of 2023 and they were known. The economic agents on the left side of the Nistru were aware of the new provisions. They fully complied with the new general import-export rules. All economic agents, on both banks of the Nistru, were put on an equal footing. It is an assumed decision. Our message to those on the left side of the Nistru is that they must gradually comply with the laws of the Republic of Moldova, operate according to unique, correct rules, pay taxes and, last but not least, benefit from all the international agreements, including the Free Trade Agreement of the Republic of Moldova with the European Union. The economic agents on the left side of the Nistru already benefit from the Free Trade Agreement, but the propaganda there deliberately does not say this,” noted the official.

The so-called Congress of deputies of all levels from the Transnistrian region will be held on Wednesday, February 28, at 11 a.m., at the Palace of the Republic in Tiraspol.
