Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu said the constitutional authorities of the Republic of Moldova constantly monitor the situation on the left side of the Nistru, while the country’s foreign partners were already informed about the incidents that occurred in the region. The latest challenges were planned by Transnistrian groups that want Moldova to be engaged in a war. The constitutional authorities and the self-styled authorities in Tiraspol do not want the situation to escalate, IPN reports.

The Speaker described the latest incidents reported on the left side of the Nistru as provocations and attempts to destabilize the situation. According to Igor Grosu, the separatist leaders realize the gravity of the moment and are against Moldova being involved in a war.

“Someone wants the situation to escalate and become tenser. On the left side of the Nistru, there are two forces and I do not refer to political forces – the war camp of the hot minds and the camp of moderates from among the so-called Transnistrian authorities, who better realize the consequences of a scenario that no one wants. The people there also do not want an escalation, despite the propaganda persisting there. The number of applicants for passports, identity cards has increased. There is an influx of people to the right side. It is an attempt by the group that does not want peace to destabilize the situation,” Igor Grosu stated in the talk show “The Fourth Estate” on N4 TV channel.

Igor Grosu, who is a member of the Supreme Security Council, said the Moldovan authorities instructed all the state institutions to behave maximally vigilantly, to maintain public order and to swiftly counteract any attempt to destabilize the situation.

“We increased the capacities on the border. We strengthened the critical infrastructure of state institutions. We immediately contacted the development partners and informed them about the developments. We keep a close eye on the Transnistrian region. We hope the lucid minds will prevail. The so-called authorities there gave up staging the May 9 parade and this makes us think that they realize the seriousness of the moment,” noted the Speaker.

On April 25, the head office of the so-called Ministry of Security of the Transnistrian region was attacked with grenade launchers. On April 26, the airdrome in Tiraspol was attacked and two radio communication antennas were damaged in Mayak village of Grigoriopol district. The Moldovan constitutional authorities consider the provocations were organized by forces from inside the Transnistrian region, while the separatist Transnistrian leader said the traces of the latest attacks lead to Ukraine.
