Thirty years after proclaiming independence, Moldova is just learning how to be a state - a young state, with fragile institutions that need to be nurtured and developed. The state faces major challenges in the sector of justice, economy, security, health and environment, said Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu in a Facebook video message on Independence Day.

According to Igor Grosu, the independent and sovereign state of Moldova was built by strong women and brave men - with hard work, mutual help, strong will, courage and optimism. Naturally, everyone has questions, grievances and hopes related to the country's years of independence.

"After so many failures, I firmly believe that at least now, 30 years later, we will build a state for the people, for all the people, regardless of ethnicity or spoken language. In order to achieve that, we need all to contribute as to transform our country into one where we can live in safety, stability, well-being and mutual respect", he said.

The speaker said that the pandemic crisis showed him that people can join forces to fight the plague together. Even if the battle is not yet won and COVID-19 is striking in waves, the pandemic can only be defeated by a joint effort. That's why, at this festive time, all gratitude goes to the medical and social workers who have been on the front line through all the hard times and to the families who have lost relatives this year.

Igor Grosu said that he hopes that, after 30 years of independence, young people will stay at home, invest in Moldova, will value hard work, modesty, care for the community and the environment and will have respect for the law and for teamwork. According to him, this requires the involvement of every citizen and every family.

"I call on all people who care about our country to get involved. Only with your help, with the participation of each and every one of you, can we turn our aspirations into real change. Dear friends, I sincerely wish you all a beautiful August 27 celebration! The success of Moldova is the success of every citizen. Only together we are Moldova!", said Speaker of Parliament Igor Grosu.

On August 27, 1991, the Declaration of Independence of Moldova was adopted and signed by 278 Members of Parliament.
