Igor Dodon said that if he decides to run for a new term in office, he cannot benefit from the direct support of the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova. According to him, if the PSRM supports him directly, the opponents could challenge this thing in the Constitutional Court and he could be ultimately excluded from the campaign preceding the presidential elections, IPN reports.
“The President cannot be a party member. Therefore, if the President keeps office, when running in elections he cannot represent a party. If I run on behalf of the party, this will offer the opoonents a reason for going to the Constitutional Court,” Igor Dodon stated in the talk show “Forth Power” on N4 channel.
He noted that if the opponents go to the Constitutional Court, the Court could remove him from the race and this is the goal pursued by some of the politicians.
“I know that a lot of people got ready for such a scenario so that they could prevent me from running. Such scenarios are discussed by the MPs of Maia Sandu. If I decide to run, I will run on behalf of the people, but can be supported by the parties that will be willing to support me. Time will show which these parties are,” stated President Dodon.
Also in connection with the presidential elections, Igor Dodon said the leaders from the right want Maia Sandu to lose the next presidential elections as she would gain more political power as a result. “Maia Sandu will lose one more time and will be sunk, while those from the right will have maneuvering space.”
