The relations between Moldova and Romania should be based on pragmatism, mutual respect and friendship, President Igor Dodon said in a meeting with journalists. He noted he hasn’t yet asked for a meeting with his Romanian counterpart, but such a meeting should take place.
“I will not allow those from Bucharest to become involved in the internal affairs of the Republic of Moldova,” stated Igor Dodon, noting he will not accept to be taught lessons, as his predecessor did.
“We are not younger or elder brothers. We are friends. We respect your statehood and you should respect ours. There will be no union. The citizens of this state will not allow a union. I promise you this. As long as we are alive, no union will take place. I respect our neighbors, out Romanian friends, but when it is about statehood and the Republic of Moldova, I can say that we are brothers, but we each have our own home.”
