Representatives of the Center for the Protection of the Fundamental Rights “Sirius” and the public association “Centenarul” said the President of the Republic of Moldova was elected in breach of the constitutional framework and they will request the law enforcement bodies to investigate this aspect.
In a news conference at IPN, “Sirius” head, jurist Anatolie Petrici said that in 2016, when the Constitutional Court adopted the decision by which the direct election of the President, by the people, was restored, Parliament was to abrogate Law No. 1115-XIV of July 5, 2000 concerning the amendment and supplementing of the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova (method of electing the President). It should have adopted another constitutional law, by adjusting the articles and paragraphs that were classed as unconstitutional. But this wasn’t done.
Ion Rata, representative of the association “Centenarul”, said that therefore the President was elected by seriously violating the Constitution. President Igor Dodon speaks about statehood knowing this. The union with Romania is the only possibility for the people from the right bank of the Prut to live in a state that would defend their rights.
Veaceslav Verlan, commander of the special destination group “Scorpionii”, said the sovereignty and independence of the Republic of Moldova were obtained through the sacrifice of their comrades-in-arms and of people of good faith, and today we need the union. “Only by uniting with the homeland, will we really feel humans. The union subject has always been considered a difficult one. Many say it is not the right moment, but we should be those who prepare the moment,” stated Veaceslav Verlan.
The members of the two NGOs reiterated their call to the people to come to the Great National Assembly Square in Chisinau on March 25 so as to vote the declaration on the recognition of the Union Act of March 27, 1918. Also then, they would demand that the Parliaments of Romania and of Moldova, in a joint meeting in Bucharest on March 27, should vote the country’s reunification by making again Bessarabia part of Romania.
