President Igor Dodon intends to submit two legislative initiatives. One of them provides that the historical flag of Moldova will be recognized and mandatorily hoisted by all the public institutions. The second initiative stipulates that Parliament should also include members of other nationalities. The official made such statements in a forum of ethnic groups entitled “Keeping of the statehood of the Republic of Moldova” that was staged by the commission for interethnic relations of the Civil Council working under the President, IPN reports.

“I do not have the intention to change the state flag. I just want our historical flag to be recognized as it is part of our history that does not allow us to forget our roots. In the next sitting of Parliament, I will submit this initiative and will propose that all the state institution should hoist the historical flag of our country. We will start to hoist this flag in the 300 communities whose mayors signed symbolical statements on the union. I will also ask that there should be members of Parliament of other nationalities,” stated Igor Dodon.

He noted he is proud of the fact that people of different nationalities live in Moldova. Forces from outside the country repeatedly tried to put them on barricade, to divide them. But these people managed to keep the unity owing to love and patriotism.

“Regrettably, not all the citizens of the country respect Moldova’s statehood. They discredit it. They probably want Moldova to disappear. We will not allow the statehood to be destroyed. We do not need people who come from other states to become involved in politics in Moldova. We can ourselves do good reforms and make good laws,” said the representative of the Ukrainian community in Moldova Nicolai Oleinic.

The head of the Russian community in Moldova Ludmila Lashchyonova said the country’s administration has recently taken incorrect decisions as to the Moldovan-Russian relations and many actions that distance Moldova from Russia.
