President Igor Dodon advised the opposition to register a no-confidence motion in Parliament and to assume the appointment of a new executive if it’s not satisfied with the activity of the current Government. According to him, the opposition MPs are “weak and fearful” to assume responsibility in such a difficult situation with crises, pandemic and drought, IPN reports.

“We hear a lot of statements from the opoonents, the opposition. They say they are ready to remove the Government, but the question is simple: “If you are ready, why don’t you do it?” Igor Dodon asked in the program “President Responds”. He noted that the opposition should try to remove the Government and then to appoint a new Cabinet. A no-confidence motion is registered with 26 votes and this can be done even at the next sitting of Parliament that will most probably be called next week

Asked about possible coalitions and about PAS leader Maia Sandu’s assertion that they will not have any discussions with the Party of Socialists, President Dodon said she should never say never. Maia Sandu was the one who refused to shake hands with him at the State Residence, but did it in a month. The leader of the PAS should be attentive to what statements she makes as things change and she will have to justify herself if they vote together or discuss in the future.

As to the presidential elections, Igor Dodon said it is not the right moment to decide whether to become involved in these or not as he now has more serious and pressing problems. However, if he runs, he has the biggest chances and will win them either by the first round or in the runoffs. He criticized Maia Sandu and her former bloc mate Andrei Năstase, the leader of the PPPDA, for dividing the office of President. He noted that the two struggle against him, while he works for the citizens.

Asked what happens if the Democratic Party fields its own candidate for President, Igor Dodon said it is each party’s right to do this. Each party should also assume the risks as if they poll 1-2% of the vote, their rating will be affected.
