"As president of the Republic of Moldova I avail myself of every opportunity to request the de facto recognition and observance of the neutrality status of my country." Igor Dodon's speech was delivered within the framework of the general debates of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly, IPN reports.
"We do not want to be treated as neutral territory anymore. This is something other than a neutral state. Any attempt to question this status of neutrality is an unfriendly gesture towards the people of the Republic of Moldova,” said Igor Dodon.
The president has specified that such approaches deepen internal tensions and compromise the chances of solving the Transnistrian dispute. "At this rostrum there were calls for the withdrawal of Russian foreign military and ammunition from the territory of the Republic of Moldova. I want to welcome the initiative of the Russian Federation to resume the process of destroying the foreign ammunition stored in the Transnistrian region of my country”, declared Igor Dodon.
According to the president, unlike other frozen conflicts, the Transnistrian case has no interethnic or religious implications.
In his address, Igor Dodon has specified that the alliance which governs the Republic of Moldova has brought an internal consensus, strengthened by the common position of the major world powers, including the US, Russia and the European Union. "The agreement, at both internal and external levels, gives us hope for real progress on the necessary internal reforms, such as justice reform and the fight against corruption," said Igor Dodon.
The president has mentioned that there is a joint approach regarding the observance of all the agreements signed by Moldova, including the agreements with the EU and the CIS. "Relations with the two friendly neighbouring countries, Romania and Ukraine have a special place in our cooperation," the president said.
Igor Dodon has also stressed that the Republic of Moldova remains firmly committed to the observance of the UN Charter provisions.
