President Igor Dodon said the two years in office were difficult, full of challenges, but also with good results achieved despite the Democratic Party’s and the Government’s attempts to block the activity of the President. In the period, the people’s trust in the presidential institution was rebuilt. Igor Dodon is convinced that 2019 will be even better and no blockages in the internal policy will be allowed and there will be another parliamentary majority. The statements were made in a summing up conference on December 20, IPN reports.

Igor Dodon said it was clear from the start that there will be inter-institutional conflicts in the domestic policy as he is the first President elected directly by the people during the past 20 years and those who control the Government and Parliament aimed to also control the presidential institution. The legislature and the executive named the prosecutor general before the election of the President and later cut the powers of the President, including by transferring such institutions as the Security and Intelligence Service and the State Guard and Protection Service. Through the agency of the Constitutional Court, everything possible was done for the President to be unable to become involved in the Cabinet reshuffle, as never before, during the past 27 years.

President Dodon said that even if he received thousands of messages from people to mount protests against the ruling party, he chose the diplomatic way even if fully illegal suspensions followed. He will not yet allow blocking the presidential institution and thus decided to accept the people’s initiative to create a national people’s movement entitled “Powerful President, Powerful State” that will be represented in each district and in each locality.

As to the foreign policy, the President said he pleads for balance so that the state does not unite with someone against others. Moldova should have good relations both with the East and with the West. During his two years in office he paid 34 working visits and official visits abroad and had meetings with 23 Presidents, ten Parliament Speakers and 13 Premiers. He managed to restore the relations with Russia and had multiple meetings with the Russian authorities.

As regards the Transnistrian settlement process, the President said that during two years he had four meeting with the Transnistrian leader Vadim Krasnoselski and a new meeting will take place in Transnistria on December 25. Today or tomorrow, he will promulgate the law on mobile telephony, which allows mobile phone carriers from the right side of the Nistru to have access to the Transnistrian region and vice versa.

President Dodon also said that as of December 21,those who want to visit the Presidential Building can register on the presidential institution’s website. As from December 15, the Open Doors Day will be staged two times a week.
