The closer is the Parliament dissolution day, the more constructive will be the discussions between the parties that entered Parliament, President Igor Dodon was quoted by IPN as saying in the talk show “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1.

According to Igor Dodon, the Socialists and the representatives of the right have been in opposition to the Democratic Party that has been in power during the past few years. That’s why it is logical for the two opposition parties to try and reach a consensus so as to combine forces against the government. As regards the bills proposed by the Socialists, he said the PSRM during the last few years suggested a number of bills that were rejected for vote by the Democrats and these bills were fielded as voting proposals to the Bloc ACUM.

President Dodon noted the probability of snap elections is very high and if such elections are held, the right will not stand to gain.

He also said that if the administration of Parliament is not elected, the date of the local elections that are to take place this year could not be set. The terms in office of the current local elected officials will be extended automatically. “An interpretation of the Constitutional Court is theoretically possible and I will make such a request most probably in May,” stated Igor Dodon.

As to the possibility of holding snap parliamentary elections simultaneously with the local elections, Igor Dodon said such a solution would be logical so as to avoid spending money two times. “If Parliament does not form a Government and does not adopt any law by June 21, on the expiration of a 30-day period the Head of State requests the Constitutional Court to accept, confirm the circumstances in which Parliament should be dissolved,” stated Igor Dodon. Thus, the President will dissolve Parliament by decree at the end of July at the latest and will call snap parliamentary elections.

As regards the presidential elections in Ukraine, Igor Dodon said that no matter which of the two candidates wins, the relations between Moldova and Ukraine will not worsen.
