A decision on the extension of the state of emergency hasn’t been taken, President Igor Dodon stated in a new issue of the program “President Responds”. If the situation generated by the COVID-19 infection is difficult, Parliament will be proposed to extend the state of emergency. “Either Parliament takes such a decision or does not, we consider some of the restrictions on economic activity, trade, the hospitality industry should be lifted at the end of April or the start of May,” he was quoted by IPN as saying.

In another development, President Dodon said he was informed that the Border Police chief Corneliu Groza contracted COVID-19. The persons who had been in contact with him also did a test. He noted that personally, he follows doctors’ recommendations concerning the protection measures.

The official stated that the health facilities have 500 ventilators for mechanical ventilation. Of the over 1,100 persons confirmed with COVID-19 so far, about ten needed assisted ventilation. “We have equipment, but we nevertheless had discussions with partners that are ready to make donations so as to increase the number of ventilators,” said Igor Dodon.

A consignment of 100,000 test kits ordered from China and more assistance provided by the Chinese side will reach Moldova next week.

The state of emergency in Moldova was degreed until May 15.
