President Igor Dodon said his position and the position of the party he led is that the signing of the Moldova-EU Association Agreement was premature. He noted that the accord cannot be yet annulled by the Head of State, but this issue will be discussed again after the next legislative elections, IPN reports.
In an extended-format meeting with journalists in the evening of January 24, Igor Dodon said that before signing the Association Agreement, the Republic of Moldova had an asymmetric trading regime with the EU. After the accord was signed, the Moldovan market was invaded by imported products and many jobs were lost. Most of the citizens are for signing an agreement with the Eurasian Union so as to return to the Russian market. Moldova should yet keep good relations with both of the sides.
The President also said that in the meetings he will have in Brussels during his visit at the start of February, he will state the same position on the Association Agreement as the one he made public in Moscow. Four high-level meetings with EU officials have been planned so far.
