President Igor Dodon said the law to amend the Broadcasting Code to ban the broadcasting of news and feature programs of Russian TV channels in Moldova runs counter to the European norms concerning the freedom of thought and of expression and does not correspond to the constitutional provisions on access to information and shows the incapacity of the Government and the parliamentary majority, IPN reports.

On his Facebook page, Igor Dodon wrote that he will not promulgate this law. “The more the provisional pro-European parliamentary majority intensifies the anti-Russian rhetoric and tries to do everything to damage the relations with our strategic partner – the Russian Defecation – the better the citizens of Moldova see the destructive character of these actions and their danger, first of all to the country’s economy and as a result to the life of the ordinary people,” wrote the President.

“If the parliamentary majority considers that such actions will help it annihilate the wish of 65% of Moldova’s citizens to have relations of friendship with the Russian Federation, they should realize that this is useless. In our information era, when the Internet develops, such initiatives are of no use.”

The bill to amend the Broadcasting Code that was proposed by the MPs of the Democratic Party and the European People’s Party of Moldova was adopted by Parliament in two readings by 61 votes in favor on December 7.
