Genderdoc-M organization, which promotes the rights of the LGBT community in the Republic of Moldova, submitted a complaint to the police against the former head of state Igor Dodon over incitement to hatred. In a post on social media, Igor Dodon said that the complaint is based on a sentence included in his electoral commitment, IPN reports.

“We will not allow the implementation of LGBT propaganda in schools and in Chisinau, as this is unacceptable both for most teachers and for parents and families that have children at school.” This is the message that Genderdoc-M considered incitement to hatred, Igor Dodon said. “And everything, in their opinion, falls under the Contravention Code and the Criminal Code (Instigation to violent actions on grounds of prejudice), they invoking the fact that there are no researches or studies to prove that society, teachers, parents, children would be bothered by the propagation of LGBT in schools,” noted the Socialist leader.

Igor Dodon insists that the non-acceptance of LGBT propaganda in schools represents “his position as a citizen and father, who has always campaigned for the preservation of healthy traditions and will continue to support this cause.”

Update /05:19 p.m./ Angela Frolov, administrator of Genderdoc-M, commented on Igor Dodon’s announcement, saying that of the organization’s cases involving the ex-President of the country, one is at the ECHR and the second one is in court. “So, they both long ago passed the investigation procedure and both are on other homophobic statements made by him. Furthermore, the statement he says we submitted was not even made this year, at least not we documented it. Question: How do you think, why did Dodon write this post in September 2024?”, Angela Frolov noted.

Genderdoc-M’s administrator also said that a year ago, during the mayors’ election campaign, the Socialists distributed newspapers with homophobic content, against which Genderdoc-M filed a complaint and these were withdrawn. For a year, the Socialists did not respond to the invitation to give explanations to the police. “Now, Dodon’s conscience awakened” and he went to provide explanations, after which he also wrote a post about how quickly Maia Sandu acts to protect us, the LGBT people,” Angela Frolov said.
