President Igor Dodon assured that the relations between Romania and the Republic of Moldova are excellent and noted that these should develop in all the areas. “I reiterate that our brothers from over the Prut are the strategic partners of the Republic of Moldova,” President Dodon stated through a video connection from Israel, where he is now on a visit, IPN reports.

Igor Dodon noted that during his visit to Israel, where he has taken part in events to commemorate the victims of the Holocaust, he informally met with about 20 world leaders.

He had an unofficial discussion with the President of Romania Klaus Iohannis, with whom he conferred on the political developments in Chisinau following the replacement of the former Government. Igor Dodon said he suggested that they should organize common events on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the signing of the Strategic Partnership Agreement with Romania this April.

President Dodon noted that he also met with the President of France Emmanuel Macron and invited him again to pay a visit to Moldova. A French President visited Moldova last over 20 years ago.

In the meeting with his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Igor Dodon was invited to take part in the Munich Security Conference on February 13-15 this year. He voiced hope that the dialogue and exchange of opinions with the German official would continue there.

The President of Italy Sergio Mattarella invited Igor Dodon to visit Italy and Vatican in the first half of March. President Dodon expressed his confidence that he would meet with the President and the Prime Minister of Italy in March.

In another meeting, Igor Dodon and the President of Austria Alexander Van der Bellen agreed to organize an exchange of opinions between the leaders of the two countries in April.

Today, January 23, Igor Dodon will have a meeting with the Parliament Speaker of Israel and hopes that he will also meet with the President of Russia Vladimir Putin and the Vice President of the U.S.

Igor Dodon noted that over 300,000 Jews from Moldova were eliminated in camps during World War II.
