The Central Election Commission (CEC) registered candidate for office of President of the Republic of Moldova Igor Dodon, who was nominated by the people’s assembly. According to rapporteur Sergiu Gurduza, the initiative group for collecting signatures submitted 889 subscription lists with over 22,000 signatures collected in 24 territorial-administrative units of the second level to the CEC, IPN reports.

Sergiu Gurduza said that after checking the authenticity of signatures in the subscription lists, more than 2,000 signatures were declared invalid. The over 20,000 signatures that remained valid enabled to register Igor Dodon as a competitor.

The CEC also registered the candidate’s electoral symbol that represents a square with equal black sides with the name “Igor DODON” inside it.

Asked by the CEC members why the subscription lists included dead persons, the initiative group’s head Vlad Batrîncea said the persons put their signatures on the lists individually and in parts they can make technical and mechanical mistakes.

So far the CEC registered four candidates for the post of President. Another two files are being examined.
