President Igor Dodon said in a meeting with the NATO Deputy Secretary General Rose Gottemoeller in Brussels, he proposed signing an agreement between NATO and the Republic of Moldova to recognize Moldova’s neutrality. In a posting on Facebook, the Head of State said they agreed to additionally examine the subject at the level of experts, IPN reports.

“I stated my personal view on the opening of the NATO office in Chisinau and said that I consider this is inopportune. The NATO office in Chisinau would make the negotiations on the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict more difficult. The country’s reunification is at the top of the subjects in my agenda as Head of State and I’m sure that now we will have the opportunity to find solutions in this regard,” stated Igor Dodon.

The President said he pleaded for the continuation of cooperation on some of the subjects over which positive results were achieved, such as the removal of pesticide stockpiles and others. According to him, cooperation is needed on areas that would give value added or would help solve particular important problems that do not arouse the suspicion and distrust of the people living on both sides of the Nistru River.
