The leader of the Party of Socialists (PSRM) Igor Dodon said that several weeks ago he was offered the post of Prime Minister in a center-left PSRM-PCRM-PDM coalition, but he refused it. In a news conference on July 21, Dodon stated that the offer was made to him by ‘top persons’ from the Democratic Party (PDM), IPN reports.
The Socialist leader noted that the PSRM will not form coalitions with the oligarchic parties, which aim to destroy the Party of Socialists, including by attempts to buy its members and by threats to start criminal cases against them. In the July 21 meeting of the PSRM’s National Council, it was decided that 21 district councilors who formed alliances with parties of the right will be excluded from the party. MP Lidia Lupu, who was allegedly bribed by the Democrats to leave the ranks of the Socialists, will also be excluded from the PSRM.
Igor Dodon said the Socialists will continue to protest against the recent rises in the electricity and gas tariffs. They will also launch two campaigns to collect signatures –to amend the Constitution so that the head of state is elected by direct vote and to outlaw the unionist organizations in Moldova.
The Socialist leader called on his colleagues from the parties of the left to make common cause and not to struggle between them as the oligarchic parties will only gain from this.
