The Socialist candidate for President Igor Dodon considers he can still win the presidential elections by the first round. “Our victory is inevitable and everyone should realize this,” the politician said in a press briefing after midnight, IPN reports.
“I thank the people for the massive participation in elections. You showed political maturity and I refer here to all those who voted, no matter who they voted for, as we struggled for the presidential elections to be direct,” stated Igor Dodon.
According to him, these elections showed clearly that the leader of the Socialist opposition enjoys the biggest trust among the people. “There are real chances for us to win the elections by the first round as many votes haven’t been yet counted. Sufficient votes are yet to be counted in districts where they massively vote for the Socialist leader,” said Igor Dodon.
After 94.4% of the votes were counted, Igor Dodon is shown to have won 49.4% of the vote, while his main opponent Maia Sandu – 37.3%.
