The next mayor of Chisinau municipality will be the candidate of the Party of Socialists (PSRM) or the candidate of the Bloc ACUM, President Igor Dodon was quoted by IPN as saying in the program “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1. According to him, for the first time the election campaign in the municipality of Chisinau will be free from geopolitics and this is important.

“It is important to see not a fight with Russian tanks or with the unionists, but a struggle for solutions to the problems faced by the people,” stated President Dodon, noting such an electoral struggle could be witnessed for the first time and the forces of the right and of the left should, for the purpose, sign an agreement to set down the main principles of the electoral competition.

In another development, the official said no problems related to the payment of salaries and pensions will be experienced in the social sphere. Moreover, there will be salary raises proposals.

Igor Dodon noted the gas tariff is a problem in the energy sector. The price for end-users depends on the exchange rate of the Moldovan leu. Last year the price of gas was reduced in the context of the parliamentary elections. “I think that next week we will have a new manager at Moldovagaz. This will be a professional who will analyze the company’s activity. The director of Moldovagaz is proposed by the Government of the Republic of Moldova, but is confirmed to post with the consent of the Russian company Gazprom,” he said.

President Dodon also said that he has information according to which millions of lei was illegally withdrawn from the “internal reserve” of Moldovagaz by the previous government. “I will try to obtain from Gazprom a reduction in the price of gas supplied to the Republic of Moldova for the next four-five months so as to avoid a rise in gas tariffs. I already started to deal with this, but I need to know what internal reserves we have so as to know what reduction to ask,” noted the official.
