A number of public functionaries, and not only MPs, have enjoyed state guard during the last two weeks, President Igor Dodon said when asked about the state guard ensured for MP Ștefan Gațcan, who submitted an application to renounce the seat and then withdrew it.

“They included prosecutors and judges, who asked for protection when a decision about the remand detention of Plahotniuc was to be taken and huge pressure was exerted at the Chisinau Appeals Court and at the court of law so that a positive decision in this regard wasn’t made,” President Dodon said in a new edition of “President Responds”, IPN reports.

He noted that any person with a high-ranking public post – MPs, ministers, prosecutors and judges – if they feel a danger to their professional activity, in accordance with the law have the right to state guard. He asks the Security and Intelligence Service and other bodies to examine the cases and, if the risks are confirmed, the President orders state guard.

As to the fact that Ștefan Gațcan, on his return from Romania, didn’t self-isolate for 14 days as it is required when entering Moldova, Igor Dodon advised the journalists to put this question to other MPs who returned from Romania, the Czech Republic and other countries. “Why don’t you ask them why they didn’t self-isolate for 14 days? You are interested in Gațcan. Leave this case aside,” he stated.
