Moldova’s President Igor Dodon plays the role of a counterbalance to the pro-European course. Furthermore, Igor Dodon is not in a war with the Transnistrian region, unlike the parliamentary alliance that signed a statement on the pullout of the Russian troops from the left side of the Nistru. The subject was developed in the program “Fabrica” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.

Referring to the announcement that President Dodon will take part in the events dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the constitution of the peacekeeping mission in the Transnistrian region and will award Russian soldiers on this occasion, political analyst Cornel Ciurea said Igor Dodon perceives the presidency as a mission of counterbalance to the pro-Russian course represented by the Democratic Party and he thus has a pro-Russia position.

Former member of the Joint Control Commission Ion Leahu said that on the one hand, President Dodon’s decision to confer state awards on the so-called peacekeepers of the Russian Federation in Transnistria is a continuation of the serious humiliation path on which he stepped when he was elected Head of State. On the other hand, Igor Dodon violated no law of the Republic of Moldova. “If he had intended to award Russian soldiers of the Operational Group of Russian Troops, which is the former 14th Army, it would have been something else. He would have violated at least Point 4 of the Agreement of July 21, 1992, which says that the Russian army should not become involved in the internal affairs of the Republic of Moldova,” he stated.

Political analyst Anatol Taranu said Igor Dodon humiliated himself when he asked the Transnistrians to accept Moldovan awards. It is not for the first time that the supreme commander of the armed forces of Moldova abandons the own soldiers and takes sides with the enemies. “There is particular logic in the actions of Igor Dodon. He continues to act as an electoral agent of the Party of Socialists. He assumed a role that he insistently and tenacity promotes. He considers that his plan to reunify the Republic of Moldova by making big concessions to the Transnistria side and Russia will be accepted,” stated Anatol Taranu.

Media analyst Cristian Tabara wondered for what merits the President of Moldova wants to award the soldiers. “We now witness a multiple-level game played by Igor Dodon and this game is rather well secured from the perspective of being attacked by legal ways,” he stated.
