President Igor Dodon said the court’s decision not to validate the seat of mayor of Andrei Nastase arouses many questions. In this case, the Socialist candidate Ion Ceban should have been declared winner of the elections given that there is no complaint or challenge in court against Ion Ceban, said President Dodon.
“If Ion Ceban had done what Nastase did in the campaign, he would have been excluded in the first round,” the President wrote on a social networking site, being quoted by IPN. According to Igor Dodon, now Andrei Nastase was victimized and spared of the burden of managing Chisinau as he wouldn’t have coped owing to his incompetence and lack of administrative experience.
“It could have been better to offer Nastase the possibility of showing his capacities or incapacities as manager so that everyone saw how sterile he is before real problems, where populism does not help”.
According to the informal leader of the Party of Socialists, Andrei Nastase profited from direct support from foreign politicians in the election campaign and the Euro-unionists from the government considered him too dangerous in view of the parliamentary elections. However, someone fears the Socialists could benefit from support from abroad in the parliamentary elections.
“I remind you that this legal norm was created from the very beginning against the Socialists, in April 2015, on the initiative of the PLDM. They wanted then to stop the political ascent of the Socialists, but now namely the candidate supported by the PLDM – Nastase – became a victim of this legal norm,” wrote Igor Dodon.
In the evening of June 19, close to 10pm, the Centru branch of the Court of Chisinau municipality invalidated the results of the new mayoral elections held recently in Chisinau. Present at the court, mayor-elect Andrei Nastase, who heads the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” (PPPDA), told the press this is a perfidious game orchestrated by the current government, noting the decision of the ordinary court will be disputed.
